Olimpia Milano Partners With Laures For "One Team" Project for Fifth Straight Season

Euroleague has teamed up with Olimpia Milano and the Laureus Sport for Good Italia Foundation for the fifth consecutive year to support the "One Team" social responsibility program. The "One Team" project is aimed at empowering participating clubs to impact their local communities positively, with the current season focusing on providing a free sports experience to 25 boys and girls from a secondary school in Milan.

The One Team group will train in extracurricular hours, providing an inclusive basketball proposal to address educational issues in a much deeper way. The program includes practical on-court workouts led by Olimpia Milano coaches, workshops for in-depth study, and meetings with players of Olimpia Milano. The goal is to unveil the potential of children belonging to complex social realities and to educate them to respect rules and show them how to relate to their peers and adults.

The Laureus Sport for Good Italia Foundation uses sport as an educational learning tool, primarily operating in the suburbs of major Italian cities. The foundation aims to help children and young people living in severe economic and social deprivation to respect themselves and others, to share and respect rules and cultural diversity, and to integrate by developing a sense of belonging to a community. The foundation recognizes the potential of sports practice as a training tool that accompanies the growth processes of the minors involved, acknowledging their potential for recovery and inclusion.

The "One Team" project has received an award from Euroleague in recent years. Among the 70 projects participating in the One Team project, the Olimpia and Laureus partnership was awarded a special category for the greatest impact on the community of reference (Community Development). The program runs from November to May and includes topics that vary from communication to empathy, problem-solving, managing emotions, relationships, and stress. Olimpia Milano strongly believes in the importance of working together with the Laureus Sport for Good Italia Foundation to make a decisive contribution to the local community, and aims to achieve more appreciable results each year. Since its foundation in 2012, the One Team program has reached 24,000 participants through the various projects of individual teams.

What are some other ways that sports can be used as a tool to achieve positive social impact and address complex social issues in local communities? What are some potential challenges and limitations in using sports as a means to promote social change, and how can they be addressed?

    1. I completely agree with your thoughts on the Olimpia Milano and Laureus Sport for Good Italia Foundation partnership. It's inspiring to see the positive impact that the program has had over the years, and it is a testament to the power of sports as a tool for positive social change. However, you are also right in pointing out that there can be potential challenges and limitations when using sports as a means of social change, as sports alone may not be enough to solve complex social problems, and it may be necessary to address systemic issues and provide additional resources and support to create lasting change.

  3. I think that it is really good to see that this team is doing this project. A lot of teams seem to be doing similar projects like this with students. Sports are a powerful tool to promote positive and social change and this specifically has a positive impact on the kids. It promotes health and wellbeing and also brings in a sense of community.
